Programs

The Itaú Child program aims to promote the right of children and adolescents to have access to quality education and contribute to their full development by means of concrete actions – like reading incentive campaigns for children and fund-raising campaigns for Councils for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CMDCAs); as well as the invitation to volunteering and establishment of partnerships.

Campaigns

Promoting reading

Every year, during the month of October, Itaú bank and Fundação Itaú Social conduct the Read to a Child campaign. In this case, adults are invited to read to children and, through reading and sharing stories, contribute to broaden the cultural repertoire of children, their own entertainment, their spending more time with their family and strengthen emotional ties. The invitation enticing people to participate comes together with the Coleção Itaú Criança [Itaú Child Collection], which anyone can request by accessing  www.itau.com.br/crianca. The book collection can also be requested by civil society organizations and municipal education departments that carry out reading projects for children.

Allocation of Individual Income Tax

Fundação Itaú Social also conducts a campaign for Itaú employees to allocate their tax refund to the Endowment for the Rights of Children and Adolescents. Every taxpayer can assign a maximum of 6% of their Income Tax payable to the Endowment for the Rights of Children and Adolescents. The amount allocated by the employees is doubled by the bank and then sent to the Endowment.

Volunteer Action

The employees of Itaú bank are also invited to volunteer to reading advocacy in social organizations nationwide. To do that, they are trained to advocate reading and receive the support from Fundação Itaú Social and the Itaú Network of Social Actions to organize the meetings. Moreover, the employees are free to distribute the Itaú Child Libraries: they can request one library per year and donate it to any organization that takes care of children.

Partnerships

As a way to foster the dissemination of its cause, the Itaú Child program sets up strategic partnerships with players working with education matters and full development of children and adolescents, such as municipal departments of education and social organizations, to develop reading actions for children.

Fundação Itaú Social is also responsible for selecting the proposals submitted by the Councils for the Rights of Children and Adolescents in response to an annual call for proposals to receive funding formed by the 1% of Income Tax payable from the businesses of the Itaú Conglomerate allocated to the Endowment for the Rights of Children and Adolescents.
