Promoting actual betterment of students' learning requires improvements ranging from the education macro policies to the classroom. Achieving significant and sustainable advances in teaching and learning entails a systemic strengthening of leadership and the key role performed by technical teams, public managers and educators. This is the perspective adopted by Fundação Itaú Social to implement the Educational Management programs with the firm goal to contribute to boost the technical teams' skills as well as the structures and processes for public-school management.
The investments in these programs are focused on sectors and players that frame the educational policy:
- Management of the educational system: Training of education authorities and technical teams in the municipalities, with priority given to regional arrangements and their potential to strengthen the educational public-policy cycle, for either implementing the municipal plan of education or streamlining the management of the public education department.
- Continuing education of teachers and managers: Continuing education, and while on duty, of teachers and school managers focusing on the instructional dimension of their leadership and enhancement of their practice by always aiming at fostering students' learning as well as on methodologies that invest in leaders from the network itself with potential to become trainers.
- External evaluations of the students' performance: Development of content and tools that broaden the instructional use of external evaluations by education authorities and technical teams, as well as by school teachers and managers.
- Family-School Relationship: Development of strategies and contents forming a systemic pillar to support the school staff in their efforts to host, support and partner with the students' families, including those in more vulnerable situation.
